Recurrent left lower abdominal pain due to spontaneous resolving appendicitis

In August 2018, a 30-year-old Japanese man was referred for recurrent left lower abdominal pain that occurred once every six months for the past 10 years. Abdominal pain usually resolves spontaneously within 24 hours. At the initial visit, the patient showed no other symptoms. Physical examination revealed no abnormalities in the patient. However, in September 2018, a left lower abdominal pain attack prompted the visit to our hospital emergency department. Physical examination revealed body temperature, 37.0°C; blood pressure, 118/67 mm Hg; pulse rate, 88 bpm (regular).
