A recent article by Dr Joseph Alpert, the editor of The Journal, provided valuable recommendations on the challenges of making a presentation at a conference.1 He included specific suggestions about how to use PowerPoint (Microsoft Inc., Redmond, Wash). I wish to reinforce some of those excellent suggestions. I have attended several Experimental Biology conferences, as well as numerous other conferences. In total, I have listened to dozens of presentations. Alas, at almost every presentation the speaker was unable to resist the temptation to jam in an excess of information.
