What is metronidazole?
Metronidazole is a highly effective antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. Bacterial vaginosis (also called Gardnerella infection) is the most common condition treated with metronidazole. Another treatment goal is to restore the healthy balance of the affected vaginal flora after treatment is complete.

Metronidazole (Flagyl / Fragile S / Metrolyl) Antimicrobial agent that is effective against bacteria and protozoa. Historically, Giardia has become accustomed to diarrhea and bacterial diseases. Isrosporia can treat it as a cure for mrosporidiosis care that you care about to avoid recovery.
The most effective results are headache, exercise, dry mouth, metallic taste. Also, pregnancy abortion can cause fatigue, depression, headache, bleeding, and fever. In many cases, severe poisoning can include neuropathy and physical condition.
Metronidazole also depends on alcohol. Medicines should avoid alcohol. In patients with protease inhibitors including ethanol or propylene glycol, methanidazole should be avoided. Amphenadiol (Agenerase) solution, rin- tervil solution of lopinavir (Kaletra), ritonavir (norbil) capsule and tipranavir (Aptivus) capsule.
Metronidazole may cause bleeding or bleeding that you found in health or vagina when you delete some cells. It may also reduce the effectiveness of medication.
Metronidazole is used in tablets or intestines. In addition, these companies are made by several companies under the trademark Fragile (Lorne Pulan Roller), Metrojel, Metrotop, Metrolly (Lagap) Zadstat (, Lederle).
Tinidazole has a similar effect, but is related to a long-term relationship. “Fiesyn” was manufactured with Pfizer’s trademark.
How quickly does metronidazole work?
Some bacterial infections can be treated with just one dose. However, this is not the case for all conditions. Below are some examples of how quickly some of the different infections can be cured (in adults 18 years and older):
- Bacterial vaginosis can be treated with a strong single dose in one day, with low doses of metronidazole in 5-7 days, or with a vaginal gel in 5 days
- Trichomoniasis can be cured orally in one day with a high-dose tablet or in 5-7 days with a low-dose tablet
- Pelvic inflammatory disease is treated orally in 14 days with tablets
- For rosacea, it depends on the brand of the drug- consistent treatment for up to 6 weeks or 4 months is needed
Taking stronger metronidazole dosage for faster results is not always recommended. Studies suggest that multiple dosing of metronidazole is more effective compared to single dosing.
Can I stop metronidazole early?
Sometimes it can be uncomfortable to have to take a medication for a long period of time, and it is understandable that you may want to stop treatment as soon as symptoms improve. However, you should never do this.
When symptoms begin to subside or have already subsided, it does not mean that the infection is gone. Stopping treatment early, before the infection is completely healed, can lead to worsening of the infection and antibiotic resistance. This means that future infections may not respond as well to antibiotic treatments and could in turn become incurable.
Always read the package leaflet on the use and storage of your medicines.
How is metronidazole taken?
How you need to take metronidazole depends on the dosage and what you are using metronidazole for.
Tablets are given orally. Take the tablet unchewed with a glass of water after eating. Follow your doctor’s advice on how often and for how long you should swallow the tablets.
Cream and gel are applied directly to the infected area (as a surface treatment) and gently massaged onto the skin. As a rule, they are used 1-2 times a day. Treatment duration may vary depending on the severity (and type) of infection and may last weeks or months.
Vaginal gel comes with an applicator, which is inserted into the vagina. Usually, this procedure (consisting of one dose each) must be done for 5 consecutive nights.
Since this treatment is used for a variety of conditions, you should always listen to your health care provider and follow the package insert. This way you can be sure that you are taking the treatment correctly.
How does metronidazole work?
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of bacterial colonization in the vaginal flora. On the one hand, so-called aerobic lactic acid bacteria, which represent the highest and most useful proportion in a healthy vaginal flora, belong to the bacteria of the vaginal flora.
Certain external influences, such as a temporary weakening of the immune system due to stress or other diseases, can cause the unicellular, anaerobic bacterial species, which also belong to the vaginal flora, to gain a predominant position.
Anaerobic bacteria can multiply very quickly and cause inflammatory reactions. These inflammations occur as a result of the defense reaction built up by the mucous membranes against the bacterial attack.
The active ingredient metronidazole specifically combats the anaerobic bacterial species, which do not require an oxygen supply for their own metabolism in order to multiply. It specifically interferes with the genetic structure of the parasitic protozoa, thus preventing further cell division.
The protozoa that are combated with the metronidazole active ingredient include, above all, Gardenerella vaginalis, after which bacterial vaginosis is often synonymously named. However, metronidazole has no effect on the continued existence of the important lactic acid bacteria. In this way, under the recovered influence of the lactic acid bacteria, the vaginal flora also regenerates.
