Atrial myxoma presenting as atrial flutter during sedation for esophagogastroduodenoscopy

A 61-yr-old man presented to the endoscopy centre for elective diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy because of dysphagia when attempting to swallow solid foods. He had essential hypertension, but no history of heart disease or diabetes. The patient underwent a preoperative evaluation 10 days before the esophagogastroduodenoscopy examination that consisted of a normal electrocardiogram. The American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification system scores was considered Ⅰ. Before sedation, his heart rate was 135 beats per minute (bpm), blood pressure was 144/76 mmHg and oxyhemoglobin saturation was 99% on room air.
