A 64-year-old female patient presented with burning sensation localized on her tongue. The burning sensation started 9 months back and gradually kept on increasing to its present condition. On intraoral examination, no alteration of the tongue mucosa was detected (Figure, Black arrows), but there was altered taste perception. Complete blood cell counts, serum iron (90 mcg/dL), serum ferritin concentration (150 µg/L), iron binding capacity (300 mcg/dL) and HbA1c (6.5%) were under normal limits. These laboratory tests ruled out iron deficiency anemia, Plummer-Vinson syndrome and diabetes mellitus.
