Milestones 2.0 – A Growth Mindset for Internal Medicine Residency Programs

In 2013, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) published the initial version of the Internal Medicine Milestones as part of the Next Accreditation System. Implementation of the milestones is built on prior efforts to expand competency-based medical education by describing subcompetencies for a developmental approach to resident assessment. Medical educators had long recognized that a traditional Likert-type scale to define resident progression was imperfect at best and inaccurate at worst.
