Uncertain Etiology of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in a Young Subject With Hypertension Treated With Dexamphetamine

A 28-year-old Black African man with narcolepsy and positive family history of hypertension was referred to our outpatient clinic after being diagnosed with grade I hypertension. Narcolepsy was diagnosed at age 25, and for more than 1 year was treated with dexamphetamine 5 mg twice a day. Apart from low vitamin D (not on treatment) the remaing past medical history was unremrkable. From the age of 25, the patient underwent regular blood pressure screening and in the last 6 months had been presenting with increased blood pressure values.
