Participation in Health Services/Population Health Research in U.S. Departments of Medicine

Health services research, inclusive of population health, is broadly defined as “a multidisciplinary field of inquiry, both basic and applied, that examines access to, and the use, costs, quality, delivery, organization, financing, and outcomes of healthcare services to produce new knowledge about the structure, processes, and effects of health services for individuals and populations,” (1). These fields help to link together medicine and public health with health care delivery and serving the community.
