On any given night in the United States, an estimated 553,742 people are homeless.1 Applying a broader definition of homelessness that includes unstably housed people, an estimated 1.5% of Americans, approximately 4.5 million people, experience homelessness in a given year.2 As in the general population, the prevalence of diabetes among people who are homeless has risen over the last several decades.3 People experiencing homelessness report poorer health and greater rates of early onset diabetes than people with stable housing.
