Statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors) are one of the most widely prescribed medications in the world. However, their use in patients is often inappropriate because these medications have some unique properties not shared with other pharmaceuticals. This Commentary lists 10 common misconceptions concerning statins (Table 1) and provides documentation supporting statin’s unique characteristics.
