Infants integrate firsthand and social experiences to decide when and how to try

Persistence is important to learning and is related to success in school and emotional well-being. A new study of persistence shows that 18-month-old infants made rational inferences about applying effort to problem solving. The infants dynamically integrated information from their own and others’ experiences in deciding when and how to try.
